IE hangs

During general browsing: clicking on a link that opens a new IE window, when
closing that new window, IE hangs. Windows Task Manager shows 2 instances of
IE (Not Responding). Have to End Task. Usually takes about a dozen or so
times of opening and closing new windows while browsing before hanging
problem occurs. Using XP SP2, IE 6. Regularly run Spybot, Ad-aware,
Anti-virus software so I think the problem has to do with something else.
Any ideas?

Hi,
(Note: Add CWShredder to your toolkit.)

This is probably being caused by a third-party program- possibly an adware,
spyware, parasite program.
Work through the solutions (CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot) at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm Also note the security tips on that
page.

Or...
A legitimate program running in the background may be causing this. Disable
(for diagnostic purposes) programs such as pop-up blockers, toolbars,
security, anti-virus, etc. You may have to reinstall, or not reinstall, a
program.
