IE fine before SP2

I have tried to find an answer to why IE6 is slow after installing SP2
and everything I read does not seem to help.

I have all updates from microsoft. All worked fine before the SP2
installation. I have checked for spyware, viruses, have defragged and
am not using the firewall (turned it off).

Again I must stress I had no problems before the service pack.
Immediately after it was painfully slow to bring up sites. Any ideas?

The default values/settings for IE's (4-5) zones change with SP2.
Have you checked for things like Cookie handling & some of the
advanced options such as "Check for Certificate Revocation" ?

Also, you should check for which BHO's (Browser Helper Objects)
are in place for IE. I would also make sure that you are using only
a single "Pop-Up" blocker, since IE has built-in blocking. No easy
answer, there are just too many variables and things that can hook
into Internet Explorer.

You should not be online with a firewall so if you turned off XP's
inbuilt one, hopefully you have a 3rd party firewall.

That should read -- without a firewall.

I have figured out a few things. I have turned off SP2 firewall. I
also tried turning off the pop-up blocker but it did not make a
difference. I am behind a firewall here at my business. We have MS
Proxy server. ISA server. I have the Microsoft firewall Client
loaded but it doesn't seem to matter if this is enabled or disabled.
Since I am an admin, on my pc I can turn on/off the proxy settings
because some programs I run will not work with the proxy server
enabled. I always was able to function the same with or without this
turned on and unless troubleshooting I keep it off.. I figured out
yesterday that my slowness occurs when I do not enable my proxy
settings. If I enable them it works fine as before (except on problem
with Outlook but I can only handle one problem at a time!). My
problem is I usually need this disabled "unchecked" because of all the
different programs I run that do not work correctly when it is
enabled. Any ideas with this added information. Thanks in advance
for any help.
