IE Dialer Window Pops up on boot or shutdown

mike

Whenever I boot now the Dial-up Window to connect to the
Internet (What you get when IE is launched) pops up when I
boot my computer and sometimes (not all) will show up on
shutdown as well. Also If I click "Work Off Line" the
Dialer window will keep returning several times before it
finally quits. I never had this problem before. I have
recently installed Norton Antivirus 2004 (NA2004), but the
dialer Window pops up long before NA2004 is started on
boot-up. Is there an IE options setting or perhaps a
registry value that has been changed?
Thanks

Hi mike :)

You may have a hijacker, malware, spyware or parasites on your system
causing this problem. In addition to running your updated anti-virus
program, you should do the following to be sure none of these are present on
your system. Some variants of malware can replicate themselves over and
over if not removed properly. Please follow all instructions carefully to
be sure your system is thoroughly cleaned:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Be sure to run CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot.
Also be sure to use the HijackThis. Please do not post your log to this
newsgroup, but to the SpywareInfo or the Aumha HiJackThis forums
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30, to allow the experts there to
evaluate your log and advise you of the necessary steps to clean your
system.

CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of the programs
below, download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:

http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

Also, get a copy of WINSOCKXPFIX available at:

I use spywareblaster to block spyware and use spybot and
spyremover (which appears to be a clone of spybot btw) to
remove spyware. The spyware removers (I just mentioned)
say my computer is "clean". I'll check out some of the
other suggestions, thanks. Btw, I am using WIN98SE.

Using SpyBot is very good for finding and removing spyware, but, it does not
have definitions to detect or clean adware, or malware. Did you by chance
use the Adaware, CWShredder or HijackThis programs as suggested to detect
and remove any of this type of scumware that might be on your system? It is
important that you follow the instructions carefully, as not all programs
are designed or programmed to remove all types of scumware.

Hope this helps
