IE crashes windows explorer

Whenever I go to aol or ebay, my windows explorer
crashes. I tried to install IE6 sp1 and it tells me that
a previous installation needs a reboot and it is closing
the installation. I have tried rebooting and I still get
the same message. Please let me know why these are
crashing my explorer and how I can install sp1.
