for some reason and i get no error code when it happens, when i try to access
any of my emails by clicking on them in hotmail ie just simply disappears
tried everything, uninstalling ie, uninstalling messenger, tried sun java
the lot.
anybody got an ideas as to why its happening?

yes mate apologies, windows xp pro service pack 2, internet explorer versions
6 or 7 still does the same and using zonealarm security suite.
its strange as nothing has changed from my day to day configuration settings
in anything, it just seems for some reason to boot me out of the hotmail
inbox, but doesnt boot me out of my junk folder or saved messages.

What if you turn on the Windows Firewall and turn off ZA's?

nope ive even tried turning off all security and going through in stages mate
nothing works.
it only seems to be when i click on an email in my inbox folder that ie
closes itself with no error screen or anything.
if i click the junk email or saved messages they open fine.
got me completely stuffed.
updated everything, windows security updates patches the lot
new java everything.
might just get rid of ie and use mozilla i think seems to be alot more
reliable all round
unless you kind people know of any known cure that is ;-)

That is truly bizarre. I can't help but think that it's being caused by a
setting in ZA anti-virus (not firewall).

If you (1) uninstall ZA Internet Security, (2) /immediately/ enable the
Windows Firewall, (3) install another anti-virus application* and (4)
manually update its definitions, does this behavior persist?

*If cost is a factor, here are two free ones: Avira AntiVir
(http://www.free-av.com/) and Avast4
(http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html). I no longer recommend AVG
Anti-Virus, Free or Pro.

Your anti-virus application should be configured to seek and install updates
automatically, daily, at a time when the machine is usually running and
connected to the internet. It should also be configured to run a full
system scan a few minutes after seeking/installing updates, also daily.
Anything less is simply insufficient these days.

Otherwise, I'd recommend running a /thorough/ check for hijackware,
including posting your hijackthis log to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2

It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

What should be happening when you click there?
Popup menu perhaps? If so, a misconfigured popup stopper
could be the cause.

In any case you could get more clues about what other files are involved
by using ProcMon. Having a trace of how that scenario usually goes
would probably be essential for comparison purposes.
