IE automatically closing

When my roommate tries to open IE it opens for about 2 seconds then closes.
Any ideas what could be causing this and how to fix it? Thanks for any help

That can happen if a document on your Home Page is damaged. To delete
the damaged file in the cache, open Internet Options (Properties), click
General tab, Delete Files button.
 
Hi the same thing happened to me this morning so I turned the computer off
and waited for a couple of hours. Now miraculously I can get on the net.
Should I be worried about spyware etc? Or do you think there's just some
weird internal fault with my computer? I've scanned the computer a couple of
times with Norton but nothing's come up.
