I have XP with SP2 installed. I'm having a problem with things hanging up
"Not Responding". This happens mostly in IE. But it has happened while using
a program, but I don't remember which one. I haven't installed any new
software. But a couple of weeks ago I installed some recommended updates by
Windows Updates. I can't tell you which ones that it installed though. Where
or what do I start looking at to take care of this? I have reinstalled IE 7
with no positive results. Thanks

You haven't included any time periods or such to work with, so the best
I can do at ths point is to point out that "Not Responding" very does
NOT mean the program has quit working. What it really should say is
"Not Responding ... YET!".
Maybe you already know this, but when you see that message, if you
wait a little longer the program may indeed respond. Actually it means
there has not been a response in a timely manner and the program could
be hung, or it could just be something is busy and the program needs
more time to get back to you. And the latter is often the case.

So IMO first, you have to decide whether the programs are hanging or
whether you just aren't waiting long enough for the responses. With the
internet and a browser, it is not unusual to see "Not Responding" due to
traffic, heavy loads on servers, all kinds of reasons.
Try waiting to see if it doesn't come back with something. On the
internet those could be pretty lengthy waits sometimes.

When you get that message, what if you just ignore it and go to another
program instead of CAD? Do things work normally?

You really need to provide more data somehow.

Twayne

what anti-virus/firewall are you using has it maybe been updated and now
isn't allowing traffic through to the internet and programs. Try checking the
settings of your firewall or disabling it for a short period. This could have
an effect. As a general rule I don't have updates happening on my computer
unless my anti-virus provider tells me I need or there is a big scare, WHY?
you ask if it ain't broke stop fixing it. A lot of updates/fixes/security
updates are not used by the general public which are looking at photos
wrinting documents, using spreadsheets etc.. only if you have a specific
problem go ahead and download the fix. However if there is a service pack
available go ahead they are generally good and safe to get and update your
computer with.
Do you have enough memory to run your programs as if you don't this would
cause programs to run slowly then what Twayne says comes into full effect
WAIT WAIT WAIT you should have at least 1GB RAM + any shared RAM and enough
hard drive space as well.
Check your event viewer and if you have errors there try submitting them in
google this might help find the problem.

I have 3 GB of memory. This happens mostly in IE. When it does the only way I
can do anything else on my computer is by Ctrl+Alt+Delete and Ending Task on
the items listed as Not Responding. If I don't End Task I can't send down any
open windows because the Hour Glass by the pointer is in motion.

I have windows XP, using internet explorer. Whenever I log into Yahoo Games
(Cards - Pinochle) it works fine except when I go to close the program it
ALWAYS hangs and I can never close it without CTRL ALT DEL. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
