IE 7 error message

I am running Windows XP and have just upgraded to IE 7. When logging in, I
get the message "The Procedure Entry Point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not
be located in the dynamic ling library PSAPI.DLL. I have seen the same
question raised before, but the link quoted in response no longer exists and
redirection is effected to another link the content which might as well have
been in Chinese. Please can I have a response with step by step instructions
indicating where I am to find the relevant folders etc on my computer. I am
running Norton Anti Virus. Should the firewall be switched off whilst
installing IE 7?

Hi Rich Tea,

That error message may be due to a program or programs (currently identified
"culprits" include Motive SmartBridge, Hal Screen Reader and Supernova
Reader Magnifier by Dolphin) that ship with an older version of PSAPI.DLL

Navigate to the installation location for SmartBridge (\Program
Files\Verizon...\Smart...), Dolphin Hal Screen Reader or Supernova Reader
Magnifier, locate PSAPI.DLL in the installation location and rename it to
something else, such as PSAPIOLD.DLL
Do NOT rename the PSAPI.DLL file in the Windows\System32 folder
Restart the computer
The program will find the new PSAPI.DLL in the \Windows\System32 directory
and function normally.

Thanks, Patti.

Unfortunately I cannot find any of the files you mention in the Program
Files folder.Do you think that this has anything to do with the message
I get on screen on Windows Startup, viz: "Please insert CD containing
Setup 32.exe into drive (E:) and press any key to continue"?
Incidentally, I uninstalled the latest eBay toolbar and as a result
lost the "My Downloads" folder from my hard drive. Not having much luck
at the moment, am I? Thanks for any further help you can provide.

You're welcome :)

The programs mentioned are only the "known culprits", there may be other
programs that ship with an outdated version of the DLL file
Do a Search for PSAPI.DLL
Does this file appear in any folders other than the Windows\System32 folder?
If so, what are the folder names where it was found.

I do not know whether the error message has anything to do with the "Please
insert CD containing Setup 32.exe into drive (E:) and press any key to
continue" message or not. Sounds like someone (I don't know whether you're
the only user of your PC or not) started to install a program that did not
completely install and now is trying to complete the install.
