IE 7.0 on horizon

I'm excited about the upcoming version of Internet Explorer.

Other rival browsers might have many appealing features such as tabbed
browsing, a download manager, etc. but I just can't quit MS IE.

I have tried Firefox (1.0.3), Netscape (7.2), the two main competitors
against IE. Result(?): Removing both of them.

I enjoyed Firefox for 30 minutes and 10 minutes for Netscape. Those
open-source browsers are just not my type.

One particular reason is Google Toolbar, which is only available for IE.

The new version of IE should include more startling features than its
predecessors had. One is a download manager that would help resume broken
downloads and integrate all the downloads in one single window, probably also
the capability to split the file into many parts to accelerate the speed.

Tabbed browsing is not among expectation, since Windows XP allows multiple
IE windows to be grouped together. It's similar to tabbed browsing anyway.
However, if Microsoft can add that feature in IE, version 7.0 will definitely
be the winner.

I agree with everything you say. I try new versions of just about every
program (Firefox, Netscape, CrazyBrowser, OffByOne, Enigma, ...) and an hour
is always enough. Each one has something that is not in IE but none are
really worth changing.

I used to be a heavy Mozilla user, then I moved to Firefox (when it was
called Firebird) but since SP2 I moved back to Internet Explorer. But for
the last couple of months I've been using Maxthon (which is based upon the
IE engine www.maxthon.com) I quite like it. Tabbed browsing, mouse gestures
so you can back forward switch pages like that (it's a lot quicker then
finding a button). The main important thing for me was the RSS support.

The main argument against IE, is always poor standards support. So I'd like
to see CSS2.1 being as well implemented as possible. Tabs.... Yeah like
you said, Windows supports many open windows, it's nice to have that option
to just fire off 30 tabs all inside one window but not a killer feature.

Hello,

Hey, and don't forget to mention Quero Toolbar, an effective search and ad
blocker extension for Internet Explorer ;-)

I've tried them all but actually settled on Avant which has the advantage of
tabbed browsing while using IE's rendering engine. It also supports the
Google Toolbar:

Why wait for IE7 when you can have it now. It also has ad blocking, flash
blocking and numerous other features as well as being highly customizable
and it's just over 1MB! Worth a look.

Don't mind the flaws in FireFox, OS X, Linux. Everyone as flaws.
MSFT in my opinion does a good job.

Exactly, when flaws are concerned, MS excels!

I mean they do I good job finding and fixing the flaws, considering they
have to make sure it does not hurt 90+% of the market.

Nope I do not!!!
Tried it and still got spyware, so I don't see what all the talk about
security is all about.

JoeM,

It's obvious you don't.

It's obvious IE is the most popular.

It's obvious IE is the most targeted by spyware/malware.

It's obvious MS pushes you into installing IE, even if you don't want it (hmm... almost malware-like behaviour).

It's obvious an alternative browser like Firefox is miles ahead of IE6.

It isn't so obvious MS may have learned with the competition and will launch an IE7 that people will love, enjoy and feel SAFE.

Anyway, we will have to wait and see.

Come-on guys, try Firefox seriously and try some of the extensions! MS
is not a religion... :)

Anyway, it is good to see that MS is developping a new browser. But in
the meanwhile, you loose a lot not using Firefox.

I haven't lost a thing. I've tried it. I didn't like it. Firefox isn't a
religion either. My choice is Avant <www.avantbrowser.com> it has the best
of both worlds (full IE support, tabbed browsing, pop-up blocker, ad-
blocker, flash-blocker, highly configurable and just over 1MB). Here's an
interesting article on the pros and cons of Firefox:
