Wife performed MS upated install in on windows xp home. IE icons changed from
"Internet Explorer" to "Internet" with a globe. Now when she double clicks
the proerties window opens and the target is not stated as IE. I can however
run IE from the run window. Any idea what may have happpened? It worked fine
before her sp2 install and of course I can't remove IE through add/remove
programs.

Also wanted to add that when the properties appear that the target location
cannot be modified, but you can access IE properties such as histor,
connections, security tabs.

Hi Chris,
It is normal I can't see any problem in that if you not happy with the
globe, in the Properties Click on Change Icon.. and you can change it to the
Explorer or any fancy icon you like from there.
The main thing is; are you able to Browse the internet by double clicking
the Globe or not?and it is working?
please write back here
Hope this helps

That's correct. The icon doesn't bother me. It's the fact that double
clicking the icon opens the the properties of the shortcut and does nothing
else. I have to run it from the run line. Have you seen this?

Hi Chris,
Try to create a new Shortcut on the desktop or try repair by going to the
RUN command:
Run >> Type in the Text box rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6 Maintenance and press
ok, you will be given the options to Add a Components or repair select repair.
Hope this helps

I'm sorry, after checking the IE6 is sp2. When I attempted to run the command
it returned an error "error loading setupwbv.dll module could not be found"

Hi Chris,
Delete the Shortcut on the desktop and create new one from IE folder in
Windows Explorer, by going to Winddows Explorer Click the plus sign [+]
beside My Computer
and look for Programs click on the Plus sign [+] and scrol down to internet
Explorer and select it and look for the IE icon on the right Window and there
right click and send to Desktop (create Shortcut).
Hope this helps

nass,

This tip only works for XP users who have installed IE6sp1
*before* any XP service packs.

Also, watch the typos. <w> There is no space in the entrypoint name.
