IE 6 Crashes: dispex.dll

Internet explorer sometimes close on certain sites: “Internet explorer has
encountered a problem and needs to close.†Often when I open a link from
another page.

Appname: iexplorer.exe Appver: 6.0.2.900.2180
Modname: dispex.dll Modver: 5.6.0.6626 Offset:00001362

IEver: 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519

I have followed the crash analysis advice: checked for malicious IE add-ons,
Installed updated IE for service pack 2. All updates up to date!

‘Onspeed’ (Internet speed up program) also advised to download the latest
dispex.dll, rename the old one and copy to the system 32 file, which I did.
No luck.

McAfee reports no viruses or malicious code, as does Microsoft malicious
code checker.

Driving me crazy! Any ideas, please not another reformat and
reinstallation??? I don’t have the disks for win xp or IE. Help!

Hi James :)

This is likely caused by a mismatched DLL for the file "MSHTML.dll".

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, so I will have to
guess at this point. If you have Windows 2000 or XP try the following first
and see if it helps:

Go to Start>Run>) and type the following (one entry at a time) into the
window, and press enter after each line. A message will appear after each
one stating that the file has been registered successfully.

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll (this command only for Win2000 and XP)
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

Also, check the information here.
Internet Explorer or Outlook Express quits unexpectedly with an error in
Mshtml.dll
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;816506

Additionally, if you have the Google toolbar, try disabling or uninstalling
it and see if that helps.

Hope this helps.
