IE Has encountered a problem and needs to close! dispex.dll??

My internet explorer works sometimes on some sites, and on others keeps
generating the following error message -

"IE has encountered a problem and needs to close"
AppName: iexplorer.exe Appver: 6.0.2900.2180
Modname: dispex.dll Modver: 5.6.0.6626 offset: 00001362
event id:? 1000
IE ver: 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.

I have tried the following: downloaded and installed update for IE 6 xp ser
pack 2.
checked for malicious addons as per the crash analysis advice. All seem ok.
Removed yahoo toolbar.

Downloaded an updated version of dispex.dll (renamed old one as back up) and
copied to system32 file as advised to do.

McAfee shows no virus and have checked for addware, etc.
I had installed 'Onspeed' internet conection bosster, but they say its a IE
fault, not their prorgamme. They have been helpful and advised the new
dispex.dll file thing.

Driving me crazy! Still same problem. Please tell me I'm not heading for a
reformat again !?!?!?

Any help appreciated

James

Thanks to Donny and Jon for their quick replies.

I had updated my pc with all MSN critical updates- manually and automatically.
The only thing that worked, was to turn off all Internet Explorer 'Add-ons',
even though they were all 'OK', i.e., from MSN, Yahoo, McAfee, etc. No
malicious ones present as deemed by MSN Online crash analysis advice sheet.

At least I have a working internet for now!!!

Thanks again

If you disabled all your IE add-ons via unchecking the "Enable third-party
browser extensions" box in IE's Advanced options tab and that fixed your
problem, you can now go another route and try and troubleshoot
exactly what BHO (browser helper object) is causing the issue. In IE go to
Tools...Manage Add-ons and re-enable one or two at a time to see which one
is the troublemaker. Then you can uninstall/reinstall it and see if that
helps.
