IE 6 can't access the net

J

John Blair

I'm XP home on an e-Machine and have run several of the MS
updates to
both XP and IE, a linksys wireless network (router/hub and
remote
transceiver - uses a usb port). I have Norton Antivirus and
it is up
to date. I've run a complete Virus Scann and no virus found.

Currently I'm running IE 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633
Update Versions: SP1, Q330994, Q822925, Q824145, Q832894

I went to use IE yesterday and I got an error:
Inernet Explorer could not open the search page.
click OK and I get a full page saying that the page may not be
there and to check my connection settings....

I usually use Netscape 7.1. I can access the network with
Netscape,
WS-FTP, and Eudora email. Just NOT with IE.

I've spent several hours reading the various files in the
Knowledge
Base to no avail. One file was saying that I needed to have
a wsock file in the Windows directory a couple of wsock.VXD
files
in the windows/system32 directory. None of those files
were there.
I searched my system and found the wsock.dll in system32
vis windows
directory but could not find the vxd files. However this
article
also infered it was for 95 or something.

Currently I'm not runnin a firewall.

I've looked all through the IE, Tools, Internet Options for
some
hint to the problem but not had much success.

As I said I CAN get to the internet with all my other
applications
just not IE. I tried to download the latest SP with
Netscape, but
MS said I have to be running IE. So I couldn't down load
the update.

Anyone have any ideas?

TIA

John,
The first thing to do is to scan your system for the possibility of
unknown\unwanted spyware or parasites that may be causing your problem(s).
