I am troubleshooting an IE install issue for a relative, who has MSN as their ISP. They currently cannot connect to the internet. Instead, they are receiving 'Page cannot be displayed' errors. They have been instructed by MSN support to re-install IE 6 with SP 1. When I try installing IE 6, I am asked to download files from the internet. Since I do not have an internet connection at the time, my only other option is to cancel the setup

Is anyone aware of a way to install IE 6 with SP 1 without currently having IE access? Is there a way to burn a "full" version to a CD or USB drive, so that IE access is not needed during the install?

Any assistance or insight would be appreciated.

Thanks
Justin

Is it possible to download a copy from the Internet from another computer?
You can
download it to a holding folder on the hard drive, then burn it to a CD,
then copy it to the hard drive of the other computer. It might be a good
idea to uninstall the old version first, then install the IE6 SP1

Also, to make sure there are no parasites, spyware, adware or malware on the
system to cause problems during the installation, download the two programs
below as well the IE SP1 from the other computer and burn them to the CD
too, then install them on the subject computer. Be sure to run both SpyBot
and AdAware, as what one does not detect the other may. It is important
that you follow all directions carefully: When the scans are complete, then
try installing the IE6 SP1 from the copy on the hard drive. Once you are
able to get on the Internet, you should update the SpyBot and AdAware so
that they have the latest definitions and then run them again, to make sure
nothing is left on the machine.

or

AdAware: Free

If necessary, you can order a IE SP1 CD from Microsoft. It takes about 7-10
days to arrive by US mail. I costs $4.50 USD for the shipping. But the CD
is free. :-)

Hope this is the information will be of help.

It would be a good idea to be careful about installing programs that come
free or from generic sources, as they can sometimes also carry some spy or
adware with the program. Even if it says it comes from Microsoft, I would
be careful of the CD software. It is always best to get such CD's direct
from Microsoft, then you know only one source to go to if there is a
problem. :-)
