Ideal setup for Win 2000 workgroup server

I installed Win 2000 server in my home workgroup. I am just going to use it
as a file server and a print server so I can keep all of my files and the
others members of my house can do the same, plus share music from one
location.

I want to know how to lay this out with my other 4 PC's plus my Netgear
MR814 wired/wireless router. I have four other PC being use all over the
house, 2 wired and 2 other wireless 802.11b, and I am using a Pocket PC to
access it as well. I currently to use the router as a DHCP server to
distribute the IP addresses and manage the access by mac addresses. would
it be best to allow the server to handle the DHCP or have the router do this
for me.

I am confused by the role of the router and the server as which should
managing the network and how to share internet connection sharing if either
one is managing the IP address.

Thanks,

Daniels

Allowing the router to handle DHCP is probably easiest for you. Simply
put, the server is another device on your network. The network is
possible because of the switch/router, which is interconnecting your
server and pc's together. Your router is your access point to the
Internet, so that's how you'll share that service. You could use the
server instead, but it's more complicated.

Thanks David,

I am using the router as the DHCP server and I have the router basically as
a stand alone server just out of the way doing what it's supposed to do,
which is being out the way and staying quiet. Thanks for the advice.
