IDE device question

My Device Manager lists 3 Primary IDE Channels and 3 Secondary IDE
Channels. Each has two devices, which makes 12 devices in all.

I thought there were only 4 devices, Primary Master, Primary Slave,
Secondary Master and Secondary Slave. Can someone please explain?

Is it anything to do with the fact that I have two physical drives and
each is partitioned into 3 drives (C to H)?

Also, my C drive is on Disk 1 but is described as IDE(0) Secondary
Master while my physical D drive is on Disk 2 but is described as
IDE(2) Primary Slave.

What has happened to IDE(1)?

View your devices by connection.......drill down till you find the ATA..or
SATA controllers and see which devices are connected to which
controller....................highlight the controller and right click
properties and you an see which HD/CD/DVD is on which channel.
Are any of the ones you describe a IDE Channels actually SATA??PATA??
