Can't see drives

Hi,

I have Asus mobo P4B533-E and it has been great for years. Now Bios
(Award 1014) suddenly doesn't see all my IDE drives.

I have XP Pro with 4 drives and a cdrom.

2 from Primary, 2 from secondary and 1 from n IDE controller. The CDrom
is the secondary slave.

When I disconnect all drives except the boot Pri Master it sees it and
the CDrom.

When I connect them all it now only sees the CD rom.

The same happens in XP

What could cause this as it has just stated.

Check the BIOS settings.

Also replace the CMOS battery if this is
still the original battery.

This is a purely hardware issue and has nothing to do with XP. This is
commonly seen in older hardware and means that components are starting to
fail. I would start by swapping out your power supply for a known-working
one. Make sure it is powerful enough to handle all those drives. If that
doesn't solve the issue, your motherboard is probably failing.
