When I setup internet sharing and I check (allow other
network users to connect through this computer) this
computer which is the host computer does not show up in
the network any more if I go back and uncheck to allow
users to connect through this computer than the host
computer shows back up on the network.

Make sure that you're enabling ICS on the right network connection:
the one that connects to the Internet. From your description, it
could be that you're enabling ICS on the local area network
connection.
