ICS client cannot connect to internet periodically

I have a broadband internet connection on my desktop (winxp pro)
machine. A notebook running WinXP Pro uses that shared internet
connection. The connection is ok and I can browse the web, however
every x minutes the connection fails and I can no longer browse the
internet. The way to restore the connection is to browse a folder in
the desktop (i.e. goto \\mainmachine\somefolder). For some reason this
resumes the connection and for a few minutes I can browse the net
again.

Any ideas?

thanks, lior

This is somewhat OT, but for what it's worth, I personally think ICS stinks.
If you pick up a cheap & cheerful broadband gateway/firewall appliance, you
can avoid ICS and things should work a lot better. Make sure the device has
an SPI firewall and isn't just a NAT box. I've used NetGear FR114P devices
happily for home networks - about $80 USD last I checked. Linksys, Dlink,
etc., make similar.
