My desktop icons are shaded blue after my wife did something but she doesn't
know what

If you want the desktop icons background to be transparent:
Right click MyComputer.
Click "Properties" in the popup menu.
Under the "Advanced" tab in the "Performance" pane click the "Settings"
button.
Under the "Visual Effects" tab scroll down to "Use Drop Shadows For Icon
Labels on the Desktop" > Uncheck it if it's checked.
Click Ok > Apply > Ok.

If you want a different background color:
Right click an empty area on the desktop.
Click "Properties" in the popup menu.
Under the "Appearance" tab click the "Advanced" tab.
Click the "Dropdown" button at the right of the "Item" dropdown box.
Select "Desktop" in the dropdown list.
Change the color to one you want > click Ok > Apply > Ok.
