Desktop Icons for Multi-Users in XP Home Edition

Guest

After having XP Home in single-use mode since installation, I decided to add
a user account for my wife (Non-Administrator). Now she has no use for all
the game and other garbage shortcuts I use, so I tried to delete the icons
she didn't need and customize the Desktop for her.

Some would not delete. The ones that WOULD delete, also disappeared from my
desktop as well. Thanks for the restore function in the Recycle Bin!!

How do I keep My (Administrator) Desktop intact while removing the icons
from Her (User-Limited) Desktop?

The Desktop you see is a combination of two folders.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop
or
%allusersprofile%\Desktop
AND
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Desktop
or
%userprofile%\Desktop

All Users Desktop: Refers to the desktop common for all the users.

User Desktop: Refers to the desktop of that user.

Move YOUR items from %allusersprofile%\Desktop to YOUR Desktop.

To open the Desktop folders.

Your Desktop...
Start | Run | Type: desktop | Click OK

All Users Desktop...
Start | Run | Type or paste: %allusersprofile%\Desktop | Click OK

Drag items from All Users Desktop to Your Desktop.
