Icons on deskktop/control panel do not work...

The icons on the desktop and control panel do not work now. If icons are
right clicked (menu down), and OPEN clicked, the programs open. Have used
another mouse system with same results. Appreciate any ideas....and thanks.

Hi Arty,

See if a third-party shell extension is blocking the double-click - open action.
Visit http://windowsxp.mvps.org/slowrightclick.htm and try the steps listed under "Method 2: Using ShellExView", ignoring the article title.
