All desktop icons have disappeared

Windows XP SP2 40 GB harddrive 512 MB of RAM

Dad did something and all desktop icons have disappeared. I have switched
between regular & classic to no avail. In regular I can click on START>MY
Computer. On the left hand column is OTHER PLACES. I click on DESKTOP and all
the icons are there. I have right clicked on an Icon in START>SEND TO
DESKTOP. Icon does not appear on desktop, but it does appear in the My
Documents>Other Places>Deskktop.

He is the only user. In SAFE MODE Icons don't show up. However, in Safe
Mode, Adminstrator has COMMON ICONS.

Right click a blank area of the Desktop, select Arrange By and Show Desktop Icons.
