icons don't work

Sometimes my icons do not light up when I right click mouse on them.
I can restart the computer and sometimes they work and sometimes they do
not work.
When they work they keep working while I am powered up.
I can work around this by using the start menu and going to desktop and
clicking on them there.
Is there a fix for this problem?
Thank you for the help.

I'm not an expert but try this:
Go to Start Menu --> Programs --> right click on a program that you want a
shortcut on your desktop for and click "copy" then right click on your
desktop background and click on "paste". If told the file already exists just
click on "replace"

I cannot get the mouse to either right or left click on the screen.
I tried your idea and did the copy but then I cannot paste to the scree.
Any other ideas? I am open to any help.

Right. uninstall the mouse and re-start windows, if u need to then re-install
the mouse software.
if that's no good use CTRL+C to copy and CTRL+V to paste instead of mouse
buttons.
p.s. check the mouse is not faulty.
