Desktop Icons not responding

Hi,

My desktop icons, mostly the Internet Explore8 icon, sometimes
does not work.... I click on it, it turns blue but nothing happens then the
computer slows down till it looks up and I have to shut it down, I can't even
shut it down the proper way...."Star-Turn off computer...etc.."

I have to push the power off button, then when I start it up again
the icon works fine but only... for awhile...some times it is fine for a few days
other times for a few hours.

Also noticed that when this happens the icon for "FireFox" does not workd either.

I checked a few times for viruses and malware... and it looks ok there.

Any thougts what the problem could be? I have not installed any software, except
for SP3 couple months ago.
Thanks!

What is the CPU and how much RAM does the computer have? Right click on
the My Computer icon on ther Desktop and select Properties to get this
information.

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

Hope this helps.
