Icons Disappear

When saving a favorite Web site shortcut to my desktop, it will generally
have an icon unique to that site. However, after several days or a week,
the unique icon is lost and replaced by the generic IE icon. Does anyone
know why this happens and how to prevent it?

Favicons are only temporary until cleared from your cache.
