Icons appear as links

All my icons on the desktop and even in the folders apear
as links. When I put my mouse over them, it turns into
the little hand. Also I can not select multiple files,
as soon as I click on one it attempts to run it.

ok that is simple open any folder go to tools up on the
top left select folder options on thefirst thing to come
up the very last option at the bottom click "Double Click
to open items" that will fix that. my aunt actually has
hers set up that way

Go to My Computer, Tools, Folder Options. General Tab, choose "Single
Click..."
