Try this.
1. Right-click the desktop and then click Properties.
2. Click the Settings tab.
3. Change the color depth from the current setting to a new setting. For
example, change from Highest (32 bit) to Lowest (16 bit).
4. Click Apply, and then click Yes to accept the changes.
5. Change the color depth back to its original setting.
6. Click Apply, and then click Yes to accept the changes.
Then Reboot.
If that doesn't do it then try this.
1. In Control Panel, double-click Display.
2. Click the Appearance tab.
3. In the Item box, click Icon.
4. Increase the icon size by one unit.
5. Click Apply.
6. Decrease the icon size by one unit and then click OK.
7. Restart your computer.
If that didn't help, delete the IconCache.db.
IconCache.db is a Hidden file located in...
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data
or
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here\Local Settings\Application Data
After deleting IconCache.db, it will be automatically recreated.
Using this method it doesn't matter if Show hidden files and folders is
selected or not.
Paste the following line into Start | Run and click OK...
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data
Right click IconCache.db and select Delete.
Reboot your computer.

Hi All,
Many of my icons have turned to generic. MS, Adobe and Apple
products to name a few.
I tried re-associating them in >folder options>file types and they
won't take.
I also tried tweak UI.
