I am trying to instal an HP 7410 Printer and I continue to get this message
and the software will not install. HP has replaced the software, to no
avail, they are stymied. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?

How are you trying to install this printer? Do you plug it to the PC before
the software is installed?

HP Printer drivers "seem" to need to be installed into XP before the printer
is actually connected to the PC. XP is a plug and play OS and needs to locate
the drivers when the device is detected. If it can not find the drivers, then
XP "seems" to give out such errors.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have been more explicit. The printer
has never been connected to the computer. The installation software never
gets that far. Since I posted this message HP has said that I have a virus
on the machine, they sent me a copy of a MS release note that says that a
virus etc etc. So I removed my Norton Suite completely and installed the
McAfee Internet suite. Performed a complete scan of the hard drive and it
found only and adware program that must have been missed by my other
software. That being done I tried to install the software again, got the
same message. Now HP is saying that I should clean off the whole machine and
re-install XP. There must be a way to just re-install the plug in. Don't you
agree?
