i want to stop the microsoft internet explorer pop-ups

how do i stop "microsoft internet explorer pop-ups"? it's
getting to the point where they're freezing up my
computer. i can't surf the net, or play on-line games
without all these pop-ups! help please? right now i have
4 in my tool bar!!!!!!!!
