I want an external CD burner but laptop has USB 1.1. What now??

I was hoping to get an external CD burner for my two-year-old Dell
Inspiron laptop, only to find out that all the burners nowadays are
designed for USB 2.0 ports. Of course, my machine ie equipped with
USB 1.1. So exactly what are my options. Are there burners out there
still for USB 1.1? Can my machine be somehow jerryrigged to handle a
newer burner?? Or am I SOL?!?

Thanks in advance for advice proffered!

I think some burners will run on USB 1.1, just damn slowly (i.e. 4X).

The answer is a USB 2.0 cardbus adapter. Slot it in and Viola! You have USB
2.0.

Why not a card bus external burner?

Yeah, that's the first thing I was thinking. I know that my sister's
VAIO laptop has an external CD-ROM drive that plugs directly into the
cardbus. That way, instead of having to buy the USB2 card, the USB2
cable, and the USB2 external CD burner, you can just bet the card bus
external burner.
