Is there a safety switch on the drive to protect against accidental erasing?

Steve

Im really sorry but im not very good with computers! whats a safety switch!!?

Check the documentation which came with the drive.

Is there a little slide switch which 'locks' the information?

The problem you describe is very common with digital cameras where the user
is unaware of the erase protection. It's possible your USB drive has the
same.

Yeh theres a little button on the side of the USB key that says lock, and ive
tried again to save data but again it still doesnt work even when it is
unlocked. i ran the troubleshooter on the laptop still to no avail. it said
that the device is working perfectly

Could be a faulty unit.

Try it on another pc if you can, then take it back to the vendor.
