I/O Device Error

When I try to install software on my computer, I get an error saying I have
an I/O Device Error. I found an article about this problem but it didn't
solve the problem! http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891894 is the link to the
article. I tried following the instructions but for some reason I have two
primary and two secondary IDE chanels. Also, I have a device 1 and device 2
for each. But the weird thin is, I only have one Hard Drive and one DVD
Drive. What should I do? I am very confused! Please help me.

I would try going into "Safe Mode",go into Device Manager and remove *all*
instances of your drives and re-boot. Let Windows re-detect your drives.
Be sure to have any necessary software (drivers) with you when you do this.
See if only the two drives show now.
