dvd i/o device error?

I have 2 dvd r/w drives which appear in my bios. When I put a disc in
one of them nothing happens so I go into windows explorer and click on
the drive and get the message "e:\ is not accessible. The request could
not be performed because of an I/O device error."

I have not tried booting from it to see if that does anything (just to
see of if WOULD work b/4 windows).

Any suggestions as to what I can do? It is a pioneer dvr 105.

Thanks!

Try booting from it... heh
Also - remove them from Device Manager and reboot.
Also - try them in safe mode.
Also - try a known good CD/DVD.
Also - check the internal cabling - secure? And jumpers set correctly?
