i need help with scanner wizard

i have a HP PSC 500 and for some reason the drivers dont work. when i try
plug and play it recognizes the device, but when i try the scanner wizard, it
says: COMPUTER CANNOT DETECT SCANNER. PLEASE MAKE SURE DEVICE IS TURNED ON
.... CONNECTED ...
i know i have to do some advanced device setting stuff all over again, but i
don't remember what it is. Can someone help me?? Thanks in advance, Steve

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the scanner device, Action
menu, "Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device drivers again
automatically.
If no help, you probably just have a loose connection. Plug the USB or
Firewire plug in more firmly.
