Hello I'm settign up a machine for me 2 and soon to be 5
year old children to play educational games on. I'm
buying an old "easy ball". So one question is will it
work with w2k? If not what is the most secure OS I can use
it on? The unit will not have out side access. Also I
want to lock them out of everthing accept the icons for
the games this is my main concern because I don't want to
spend all my time fixng the machine. I realy just ant a
wall paper with the game icons no start menu, no my comp.,
no my docs., none for that stuff. If there is some one
out there that can help please do.
Thank you all for your time.
Eric

Hello Eric

especially for gaming, Win2k will fit your expectations! Just give the kid
an unprivileged account on the computer. Youre still able to finetune, linke
removing unwished buttons... but i'm sure there are also tools for that
(Tweak...).

Good luck, Marcel

Another option is to use Group Policy to remove the start menu, etc. Go to
start, run, then type in mmc. From there, select file, add new. On the next
dialogue box, select add, then choose Group Policy console. When the wizard
appears, select Local Computer, then finish, then close. And then close
again. When you are back to the MMC window, you will see the console root.
Open up User Configuration, then Administrative Templates, then Start Menu
and Tasks. You will see options on the right for removing the items you would
like to be hidden. Select the ones that you want to hide one-by-one and
enable them. When you are done, save the console somewhere where you can find
it later if you want to make additional changes, modifications. When you
reboot the system, the changes should take affect.
