I Love Windows XP but Have Problem (from a newly converted lifetimeMac User)

15 years on nothing but Macs, 5 months with XP - I'll take XP.

I really need some help. Here's the problem...

I freeze on start up or shortly after, it usually happens when I first engage any app or utility. Works fine in safe mode w/networking. For some reason, I have only one restore point and I'm unable to access it. I've run Advanced System Optimizer and everything seems to check out... I recently got a blue screen error - "Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" , after researching this, I reviewed my drivers that were not digitally signed and turned off four nonessential unsigned drivers... this didn't fix the problem... I just ran the included Toshiba PC Diagnostic Tool (seems quite basic) and passed.

Lastly, I'm the only person who uses this laptop. In the Documents and Settings folder I have the following six folders. Administrator, Administrator. KEITH, Administrator.KEITH.000, All Users, KD, Owner. When I start in safe mode I'm given the choice of choosing/clicking Administrator or KD. When I start up in the usual method I'm given one choice, KD. Is this the problem?... should I have so many files in Docs and Settings if I'm the only one who uses this laptop?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks.

PS. I Love my Toshiba Satellite and I'm not going back (Apple DOESN'T want to interview me for their next TV spot)

Because it works fine in safe mode, that tells me that the problem is still a
driver since safe mode starts up with the minimal drivers installed. I have
found in the past that inevitably my computer will eventually lock up or slow
down to a dead snails pace without enough physical memory installed. With
plenty of memory, I never freeze unless it is something totally unusual. Your
nag screen about "DRIVER_IRQ_LESS..." tells me further you have a driver
problem. You can try starting in safe mode and doing a step-by-step, leaving
out a different driver each time or uninstalling all your drivers and
reinstalling them one at a time until you find the problem causer. Also,
since it is mentioning an IRQ in the nag, try starting in safe mode and then
checking your resources and looking for an IRQ conflict. Disabling various
devices may find the cause if you can't tell by the IRQ settings.
Finally, I don't know why you have more than one Administrator listed, but
you can delete all the users other than your one name that you want to use.
If you start normally, you can delete all the ones you don't want or need
except the Administrator ones. If you start in safe mode, you can delete the
extra Administrator account. While in safe mode, however, make sure that the
account name you are going to keep is set up as an administrator and not a
limited user.
Hope that helps.
Also, I am surprised that an Apple user is not satisfied with Apple. I have
never used an Apple but hear they are superior to IBM's, especially in the
areas of graphics.
Best of luck, bro.

Administrator.KEITH.000 = UserName.ComputerName.000 and was probably created
because Administrator. KEITH existed. Administrator. KEITH was probably
created because Administrator existed.

See these...

If you lose Full Control permissions to your profile folder, in the
%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings folder, Windows 2000 and Windows XP
will create a new one the next time you log on. The new profile is named:

UserName - if the older profile was deleted.

UserName.ComputerName - if the old profile exists.

UserName.ComputerName.000 - if UserName.ComputerName exists.

UserName.ComputerName.001 - if UserName.ComputerName.000 exists.

The different names for the administrator account are created when you start
with a name for the computer and change it to another or make such
alterations. You may have noticed that previous administrator account(s)
remain with folders up to a certain date and the new profile folder
continues from there on and you may only have the original administrator
(and maybe the second admin.) account in the users folder in administrative
tools. I have never done this, but possibly
deleting the obsolete folders in Document and Settings takes care of that
since there should be only one account named administrator. If you have more
than one account named administrator and you have not created them consider
the posibility of your system being hacked.
