Try a set of headphones into the headphone plug to try and determine if it is problem with the
speakers or sound card. If you get the sound through headphones then the soundcard is fine and
speakers have gone south, if no sound then something has gone wrong with your soundcard. This will
help narrow down where to look for fixes.

I already tried it using my diskman's sony earphones and i don't get sound on
the earphones either!!Weired! But my pc doesn't detect anything wrong with the
hardware.Something i noticed too is that the mic icon does not show on the
taskbar anymore. And wheneve i try to get it back it's hidden for not being
active and it wouldn't come back. It's like being cursed!

Have you tried deleting the sound card from device manager doing a reboot and letting windows
refind?

Same problem and I have WinXP in a Sony Viao. It was fine and now not. I
remember fixing it briefly a while ago and can't remember what I did.
