I keep losing my Email after it is opened?

I have XP Office. I check my Email in my Inbox (Microsoft Outlook 2003) and
do not delete anything.....When I cose Outlook and reopen, all opened emjails
are deleted. Please help me to correct this problem or tell what I am doing
wrong.
