I hope this makes sense

I hope this makes sense, I am trying to make a long story
as short as I can. When I go to a site lets say google to
get my gmail and I have WinXP/explorer save my password which
is something I did on both of our computers, but recently
one of our hard drives crashed.

so here is one of many questions on the computer that I still
can retrieve my email because the password is saved. is that
kept anywhere where I can read it, see it.......because I
don't remember what it is and it was saved on a text file
on the computer that crashed.

what makes matter worse, gmail doesn't seem to be much help
as of yet because they want to send my password to an old
email account. I hope that made sense.

Try the password retriever from here:
http://password-recover.newsoftec-inc.qarchive.org/
Download and run it will show you all the passwords stored on your computer
in Plain text.
HTH.
