I have unchecked Delete text while typing but it won't work. Why?

I use a Goldtouch keyboard and am typing in Word in a Windows virtual
computer portal through a MacBook. I suspect some corruption has occurred and
won't correct. I need to stop this automatically delete text while typing
behavior. I have unchecked the box in Auto Correct options but to no avail.

It sounds as if you have enabled Overtype mode. This is usually a result of
pressing Insert when you were aiming for Backspace or Delete. It can be
reversed by pressing Insert again or by double-clicking OVR on the status
bar.
