I have MS Office 2007 Pro. How do I get rid of Outlook???

I use Outlook Express for my mail client. Every time I click on an email
address, OUTLOOK tries to horn in - but it can't because I never se tit up. I
have made OE the default email client everywhere I can find, and unchecked
EVERY box in Ourlook I can find, and told Outlook that it is NOT the default
email client - but it does it anyway. So - How do I get RID of Outlook? I
never use it for anything, I tried it and do not like it.

Go to control panel, add/remove programs and uninstall it. (use the option
to change the office install and deselect outlook)

Been there - tried that. First - you apparently can't separate Outlook from
the rest of Office 2007 Pro, so you have to try to remove it all. Okay - I'm
game - BUT - Remove Programs says that it doesn't speak-a da removal language
for MS Office 2007. I have to use the disk (or consult MS support.) Back to
square PITA.

Okay - I figured it out.

To delete Outlook from MS Office Pro 2007:
- Put the disc in.
- REMOVE ENTIRE PROGRAM (It does not allow you to "modify" it by removing
Outlook.)
- When the entire program is gone, reboot the computer, and do a "CUSTOM"
install of Office Pro 2007
- When the screen appears that has the components (Word, Outlook, etc) go to
the Outlook line and click on the little icon there (Do not click the plus
sign). You will get options. You want to select the option that has the red X
on it and I think it says "Unavailable"
- Proceed with the install.

*POOF* MS Office 2007 Pro WITHOUT Outlook.

When the process is complete, you must go to your internet options in the
control panel - go to the programs tab, and select the email client you want
to use from those that are there (Outlook preempted this setting and was TSR
no matter what you selected.) or your email won't function correctly... and
you're done. MS Office without Mama Outlook looking over your shoulder and
telling you what you want, and interfering with your operations.

Wrong, you certainly CAN separate Outlook from the rest of Office. You run
Office Setup (usually using Change/Repair from Add/Remove Programs), right
click Outlook, and select "Not Available". Now, your "Remove Programs says
that it doesn't speak-a da removal language for MS Office 2007" statement
indicates you may have a damaged installation; the exact error message would
be helpful. Should this be the case, you may be able to correct the damage
by using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove the damaged
installation so you can re-install Office (with or without Outlook).

Nope. You can't separate it once it's installed. That's what I tried first.
It wouldn't let me do that. As soon as I rebooted, the little creep
reinstalled itself. I could almost hear it say, "Mike, I can't let you do
that." (See how I got rid of Outlook above)

As to the "damaged installation" - of what? Everything works fine BUT
Office. If the installation was "damaged" then MS doesn't do programming very
well, do they? (It's supposed to be AUTOMATIC!!! I ran the full install the
first time.) I KNOW their instructions suck, are inadequate, and are
generally unclear unless you're a MS Programmer. It seems that they want
their programs and instructions to be as obscure and obtuse as possible. And
SLOW? My GOD, MS Programs run slow!

But I got rid of Outlook, so I'm now happy with that part of it.

I understand that they are eliminating Outlook Express as a compatible mail
client for Hotmail soon. That's it - you get a stable program that WORKS and
you get rid of it, replacing it with some crap that doesn't. (Can we say
VISTA, boys and girls?) I'll just check my Hotmail by using TWO servers
instead of one - and open MSN Hotmail (web) directly from my Firefox browser.

BTW - what are all those letters after your names? [MVP P/I]

I don't know what to say to that, I've used Add/Remove Programs to remove
just Outlook dozens of times. It has ALWAYS worked, never failed once since
the Outlook 2000 days, and I just did it both my XP notebook and my Vista
desktop to make sure nothing has changed, Office 2003 on the notebook and
Office 2007 on the desktop. Too bad I'm not there, I'd love to see what
it's doing. As to the letters, MVP = Most Valuable Professional and P/I =
Printing and Imaging. More on the MVP program is here:
