I have lost the format menu all together in Excel

One of my students managed to erase the whole format menu in Excel. As a
Tech teacher, I should be able to solve this, but I have no clue!
 
What version of excel?

In xl2003 and lower:
Tools|Customize|toolbars tab|
select worksheet menu bar
Click reset

You're writing about the Format option on the menubar, right?
