I have a LOT of problems with my computer ><

At first, my computer would be randomly restarting. I download thing
all the time, could be a virus. This started right after installe
Diablo II. So I decided to see if reformatting my C partitio
(nothing but windows stuff on it) and I reinstall with Windows X
64-bit edition. (At this point I bought a new power supply to see i
that was the problem.. it wasn't so I returned it) It has all kind
of problems (sound drivers for my motherboard doesn't work, Diablo I
crashing with some random error) so I go and borrow a friends Window
XP Pro disk to try to install that, and this is when the bigges
problems start. So I start formatting to this version of windows an
I get the error when it is copying files (many of the files I had t
hit retry several times one) ntfs.sys 0x00000024 in a blue screen. S
I figured there must be something wrong with this CD, and decide to g
back to Windows 64-bit until I could find another version of windows
I start formatting with the 64-bit CD again and when it is copyin
files (with only a few retry on certain files) it gets the sam
error. Now I guess it is a hard drive problem, buy a new one, and i
turns out it isn't (haven't returned yet). I then get another versio
of Windows XP Pro to see if both CD's are broken. I put in this CD an
right after it says "Setup is starting windows" it shows a
error saying "CDFS_FILE_SYSTEM" at the top an
"cdfs.sys" at the bottom. I tried taking out each ram an
trying each individually, using only one of my two sticks it got
little further, when copying files it got to the file cdcopy.dll an
it wouldn't work, I decided to see what would happen if I skipped it
and it comes out with the same "cdfs.sys" error again. :mad
I then get an extra CD drive from a friend (it was only an 8x, but i
worked for him to install XP) and in the last XP cd I used (the on
with the cdfs.sys problem) it still had the same problem at the sam
time (I didn't bother trying the ram again). I tried the original tw
(my 64-bit and my friends regular, which both has ntfs.sys error) an
they restarted right after it said "setup is inspecting you
hardware configuration" at the very beginning after booting fro
disk. One time I was lucky enough to get to after it says "setu
is starting up windows" then asked to hit enter to continue, an
it restarted. One time with the second XP cd (the one with th
ntfs.sys error but not the 64-bit edition) it got to some poin
before letting me hit enter to continue it came up with a blue scree
saying "USBPort.sys" "0x000000D1" at the botto
and "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" at the top. From th
last problem there I am assuming it is the motherboard.
I do remember before I got all new computer parts my computer wa
restarting randomly and I did not know the problem. My main proble
is not being able to install windows. Anyone have any idea what th
problem is

all of my computer parts are about 5 months old (other than the ne
hard drive[only a week old but plan to return since it is not th
problem] and the CD drive [got it on christmas]

Can you test your RAM with memtest86 I think appart from that this
just about leaves the Graphics card and motherboard/CPU as being
the culprit.
BTW nice to see plenty of details in your post, it always helps.
Get memtest86 here www.memtest.com

Look for a sticker that says "Pentium 4" or "Celeron" on your computer
case.

Do the CPU fan, and all the other fans spin?

I can't even get an OS to install so I can't use that memtest thing

Yes, all the fans work

I also know the restarting is not an overheating problem

memtest86 boots itself, no OS required - just make the diskette and it
will load the program to test your RAM.
In your situation it means making the diskette on a working machine
since yours is down.

As mentioned previously, memtest is a boot disk.

THe next thing to look for is bulging or leaking capacitors. They look
like little soda cans. If you see any that look like volcaneos, that's
a bad thing. The capacitors must be replaced. This is only economical
if (1) you can do the work yourself, or a friend can do it for free of
very little, or (2) your motherboard is new enough (but not still under
warrenty), or expensive enough to be worth repairing.

memtest so far: 6800(ish, forgot exactly =P).. think its the ram?

Most likely. Once you find the offending stick(s) and replace them,
retest. If it still complains, consider the possibility of a bad
processor or bad motherboard.

57146 errors over 1 hour and 25 minutes with memtest

does this mean that it is the RAM? hopefully, since that costs th
least

GRRR new RAM. I can't even get to the partitions screen whe
installing windows, so i do not know if RAM is the problem. I ge
back from disneyland and it has a new problem. it says CPU has bee
changed, please go into bios to reenter settings. F1 to continue.
see nothing wrong with the settings, and when putting in windows C
and booting from it, it gets stuck on Loading file... (Window
Executive

soo i buy a new motherboard. (Asus P5PL2) new problem! WEEEE... I pu
it in and everything and i start it up, it says "Overclockin
failed or overvoltage failed. F1 to continue" so i go into BIO
to see what the problem is, and a few seconds later, BAM compute
turns off. Most of the time when i turn it on, fans start but nothin
happens and in like 10 seconds it turns off again. If I'm lucky I ca
get into BIOS

Hi I came across this thread looking for something else. If you want to
seperate your problem may I suggest that your rebuild your original machine
and install xp pro (32bit) and see how that runs. I had a similar problem and
it turn out to be the powersupply.

I do hope you solve your porblem
