I E 6 Not Recognized

I use IE6, however it is not recognized by several sites,
including Microsoft's. I get a message telling me to use
IE to access the page, or I cannot access because I'm not
using IE (though I am). I checked the "Help" and "About"
and it shows that I do indeed have IE6. Suggestions?
