IE 6 - full download needed

Hi - On a Windows 98SE computer, there is a problem with Internet Explorer
6. I can't get 98SE to connect to the internet because of a problem with
IE. That means I cannot get to Windows Update to get IE6 in order to
reinstall it. Nor will the IE setup program connect to the internet.

I tried downloading the full version using a computer with XP Pro, but since
IE6 is already installed on XP Pro, the IE6 setup program will not allow me
to proceed since IE is already installed on that OS.

I've been checking my old CDs for IE 5.5, even IE5, but I must have thrown
all those oldies out. A search on Google did not turn up a site (HTTP or
FTP) where I can download the full version of IE6 for 98SE.

Anyone have a link? I've thought about installing Firefox so I can get to
Windows Update, but I would prefer not to.

Thanks

Joe

Hello

I don't think that you can access Windows Update from Firefox. From
memory it insists that you use IE for this task.

If you have no luck getting IE post back here and I can send it to you.

Thanks for the links. I got IE 5.5 installed but I kept getting an error at
Windows Update. A Google search said the solution was to upgrade to IE 6 -
LOL.

It's baffling as to why Microsoft makes it so difficult to download the full
version of IE. I've got Suse Linux 10 to keep me occupied with command
lines :)

Thanks again.

Joe
P.S. - After running system file checker, automatic skip driver agent,
version conflict manager, Internet Explorer Repair Tool, I finally
reformatted and reinstalled the OS. That solved the problem.

I reformatted and reinstalled the OS and saved IE6 for 9x to my downloads
drive. Thanks for posting.

Please re-read my original post and you will see why your suggestion will
not work. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Why install IE5.5?
You wanted IE6.
The links I gave you have IE6.
