I can't use outlook express to send mail

G

grace

Hi, I need you help.

My problem is that I can not use outlook express (window mail with vista) to
send e-mail out. The error message is as following:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'ljkljlkjkl', Account:
'public.tpt.tj.cn', Server: '202.106.187.158', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Can you please help me to find out how to settle this problem.

Thanks,
Grace

Windows Mail is Windows Mail, not Outlook Express.

'202.106.187.158' is not a server name. Call your ISP and get the correct
account settings. They should be able to walk you through the setup.
That's what you pay them for.

open Out Look and click on tools, next click on account,
click on your mail to highlite it , then clik on properties,
click on advance
change your out goingmail smtp to 587
and make sure the incoming pop3 is 110

this is what my internet provider had me do the out going # is different on
vista systems

The server at IP address 202.106.187.158 does not listen on port 25
(or port 110, for that matter). Ask your mail provider to give you the
correct server names rather than an IP address.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for your quick reply. Maybe I did not describe my problem clearly,
sorry. I use winders Mail which with Vista system, I do not know it is not
outlook express, sorry for confusion. I got the error message as the
following:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'ljkljlkjkl', Account:
'public.tpt.tj.cn', Server: 'public.tpt.tj.cn', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

This was what mentioned, can you please tell me how to settle my problem?

Thanks,

Trying to find account settings for your server is not easy, not to
mention most is in Chinese. Assuming this account was working, start by
trying the following.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant
layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving,
and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting
changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your
up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For
more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the
program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the
option arises.

The server public.tpt.tj.cn responded correctly for me. Since it did not
for you, it is likely that you are running into a port 25 block. When you
got that error message, was your Internet connection being obtained
from tpt.tj.cn?
If not, what you experienced is normal. As a general rule, the owner of
the SMTP server you are using must be the same as the entity providing
your Internet connection at that moment. For more on this issue see
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/Port_25_Blocking.aspx

The available workarounds are as follows:

1. Use webmail for sending (via your browser).
2. Ask public.tpt.tj.cn if they have a port other than '25' for SMTP.
3. You can substitute the SMTP server belonging to the Internet
connection you are using.
4. If you frequently send from multiple locations or use multiple Internet
providers, get a free Gmail account, configure it for POP access, set
it up in Windows Mail, and use that for your sending chores. Gmail
uses port 465 for SMTP, which is not blocked like port 25 is.

Verify your account settings in "Tools - Accounts - Properties" as follows:

Live.com Settings:

Server names and ports:
POP3 = pop3.live.com Port = 995
SMTP = smtp.live.com Port = 587

Checkboxes you need to check include:

Server Tab: "My server requires authentication" (Click "Settings" button
also and fill in "Log on Using" email address - *** but do NOT check the
checkboxes there . . . .)

Advanced Tab: BOTH outgoing and incoming - "This server requires a secure
connection (SSL)"

General Tab (if desired but generally recommended): "Include this account
when receiving mail or synchronizing"

Should work - if you get errors post the entire error message (cut-n-paste)
for further assistance.

You failed to enable the mandatory SSL option for that server.
See the response from "slk759".
