I am trying to set my Windows mail up with my yahoo but a, struggling on the
sending front.

I keep getting the following error message

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Read: Your new BT security
software: download information', Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Server:
'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket
Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

Any help would be very grateful thanks

Change the SMTP server port from 25 to 587.
Also, make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
Enable the "My server requires authentication" option.

You have a Yahoo UK account? If not, post the error message in its
entirety.

It appears a lot of people have the same issue, me included. Tried ports 587,
25, and 80 and none are working. Could it be a security issue (I just updated
Norton)? My message says:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject '', Account: 'mail.obriensteelconsulting.com', Server:
'smtpout.secureserver.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 80, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0F

Dee, please post your own error message. There are subtle differences that
only an expert can appreciate.

I see. Thank you very much! This must be a recent change because it was set
that way for years. Again, thank you very much!

I have tried your suggestions below and am now getting two errors. These are

Subject 'Read: Your new BT security software: download information',
Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Protocol:
SMTP, Server Response: '250 8BITMIME', Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server
Error: 250, Error Number: 0x800CCC7D

and

Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: '-ERR popgate unknown command', Port: 995,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Thanks for your assistance and hope these problems may help you solve my
crisis.

Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Advanced,
then uncheck the SSL option (for both servers).

When you uncheck the SSL option for the incoming server, it should
automatically change its port number from 995 to 110. If it doesn't,
make that change manually.

Smtp set at 25

Pop3 set at 110
