Windows XP I can't "un-mute" my PC

Hi all,

bit of a strange one, i can't access my speaker icon on the toolbar to take it off mute, i double click it and nothing happens? I have also tried going into it through control panel, when i click on the sounds and audio devices icon again it does nothing? Any ideas?

Might be worth removing the sound card from device manager and then let it re-detect it once you're restarted

I tried that but forgot to restart the machine. It now works, thanks Ian.
