I can't download drivers

I'm using a fully updated IE on a fully updated Windows XP Pro system. When I
go to ANY hardware manufacturer's Web site and then click to download a
device driver, I either get a "This page cannot be found" error, or the page
simply never loads. I can download the same drivers from the same Web sites
on the same computer by using Mozilla Firefox, and I can download the same
drivers from the same sites on my Windows 2000 computer by using IE. I'm
having no other trouble with IE. I ran Ad-Aware and deleted the data miners.
I scanned for viruses and found none. I deleted cookies and all temporary
Internet files including all offline content files. I went into Internet
Options and ensured that all the security and Advanced settings were at their
defaults. I'm not running any third-party firewalls. Has anybody encountered
this problem?

I see no reason to run that. I can connect to everything except these few
pages. I had very little adware, and it was all data miners, no really bad
stuff.
Any other suggestions?

And for that matter, I had the problem BEFORE running Ad-aware. I was hoping
Ad-Aware would solve the problem.

When you say you can't download drivers - are these .exe files? Can you
download other .exe files from other sites? Are you clicking on the link,
or can you right click and choose Save Target As? Are these drivers coming
from an FTP site?

This may not be related, but WU has this issue when downloading and
installing drivers:

Cannot install driver updates from the Windows Update Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814033
Check the folder mentioned for zero-byte files.

If you are using a system that is behind a firewall or proxy server, you may
want to also contact your system administrator or ISP to see if there are
any filters or restrictions on downloading files through the
proxy or firewall.
